All is about understanding oneself in this world one step further. Thinking, imagining and acting through the artistic hopefully leads one to the core question: ‘What does the world want from me?’ Yun Hyejeong stepped into a void with high potential when she moved from Seoul, the capital of South Korea to Germany to study at HBK Braunschweig in order to get an artistic education in the Western European sense. In the recent years art based universities and academies in Germany receive several international students from the Asian continent who would like to initiate and pursue an artistic career through their education here. How is it possible to build an artistic voice that departs from the personal and moves toward the collective? A voice that in inspired from one’s own corner in the world towards a position that can reach and inspire others in the world? Sometimes one needs to move far away from home to find the tools to form the very necessary questions. Yet at the same time when one dares to move away from their mother tongue to find these tools, many complex moments of communication, gap or “lost in translation” moments become inherent part of the search.
